Yet another quality franchisee joins the H2O International family: Paarl will be getting a taste of the best, purified water in SA.

27 October 2017 by H2O International

Jan-Louis and Leandri du Toit are the dynamic team behind H2O International SA’s latest franchisee based in Paarl. The husband and wife team was drawn to SA’s no. 1 water purification company thanks to H2O International SA’s core belief that drinking purified water is arguably the first step towards living healthily.

The deteriorating quality of drinking water in the Western Cape encouraged the Du Toits to buy into the business to be a source of safe, healthy and great tasting drinking water for the Paarl community during the drought.

Jan-Louis and Leandri both come from a corporate background. Leandri holds a Bachelors Degree in Logistics and Jan-Louis is an Industrial Engineer and has completed his MBA. The new franchisee owners are well experienced in procurement, supply chain management, food processing and project management including supply chain analysis and capital expenditure projects.

As far as hobbies go, Leandri commented, “At this stage, our passions and hobbies are distant memories due to the demands of raising a young family. However, Jan-Louis enjoys paddling and has completed both the Dusi and Berg River canoe marathons. He also enjoys a round of golf and making a ‘potjie’ every now and again. I relish the opportunity and privilege to be a mommy, and discover the required super powers on a daily basis. I have also recently discovered a passion and talent for baking and decorating birthday cakes.”

H2O International SA’s 23 years of experience and success matched the long-term strategy of the Du Toits. When discussing future plans, the couple are committed to supplying excellent water purification products to the community to enjoy safe drinking water at their homes and offices.

“Our physical presence in town will provide peace of mind to the local community that we will be able to back-up and support the products they buy”, stated Leandri. “The state-of-the-art water filtration system that is installed in the store will also be a source of safe, healthy and great-tasting drinking water for the community during the drought.”

“The Paarl’ites are also physically very active”, she continued. “We look forward to getting involved with the numerous sporting and cultural events taking place in and around Paarl all year round.”

The Problem With Tap Water

Our Municipalities do a great job treating our water so that we do not suffer from water born diseases. Our water is therefore ‘safe’ to drink. However chemicals like chlorine and aluminum sulphate are left in the water after treating it. Very necessary in the treatment process but harmful in the long term. There is also the risk of leakage into the already treated water in the system. Municipalities also don’t remove pesticides and herbicides and other industrial

pollutants. The following are various newspaper articles highlighting the reason why tap water is a problem in our daily lives.

Extracts from an article (Cape Times Newspaper)

“…ticking time – bomb of disease outbreaks, with raw sewage spillages into community water sources being reported in 95 municipalities over the past 15 months.”

Extracts from the article (Cape Argus, Friday, September 12 2003)

“The chlorine in the water you and your family use to drink, shower, bathe and swim in, as well as drink, accumulates in your bodies and chips away at your health till your defenses crumble” “When chlorine is added to drinking and swimming water, it combines with other chemicals …cause cell damage.” “Among problems associated with chlorine are asthma…skin problems…”

Extracts from the article (Health Talk Magazine)

“Startling evidence has linked Aluminum in tap water with Alzheimer’s disease.. for your own health’s sake an investment should be made in a home purifier …these remove contaminants such as aluminum, heavy metals, chlorine, toxins and pesticides.”

Many tests have proven that keeping yourself well hydrated is a very healthy approach to life. The challenge is that few of us are in the habit of drinking water. It contains treatment chemicals and simply doesn’t’ taste nice. These chemicals, amongst others have been linked to various medical conditions. Drinking water has therefore been known to assist in preventing or diminishing the following:

  • Obesity, asthma, allergies, diabetes, dyspepsia, colitis, heart problems, rheumatoid arthritis, backache, headaches, stress, depression, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. These benefits of drinking chlorine-free water are explained in detail in ”
  • Your Body’s Many Cries for water” by F Batmanghelidj, M.D.

Point of Use Water Purification that will remove unwanted chemicals & metals.

Why is water chlorinated in the first place?

Municipal water is well treated and certainly safe from the real nasties like cholera, typhoid and other frightening water born illnesses. Water is treated with chlorine, aluminum sulphate and fluoride. There are good reasons for this, the most important one being to make the water safe to drink and keep it safe all the way from the municipal reservoirs to your home or office.

“’It is the same as buying bread that is packaged in plastic,”’ says Tony Marchesini of H2O International S.A., “’the plastic keeps the bread fresh all the way from the bakery to the supermarket to your home.

When you are at home, you remove the plastic and eat the bread, you certainly don’t eat the plastic bag. This approach should be applied to water as well. The chlorine in our water is like the plastic, it keeps it safe to drink, but you should remove the chlorine by purifying the water as the last step before drinking it.”’

How can H20 purified water change your life?

  • You can control the quality of your life by controlling the quality of your water. Drinking H20 purified water has many benefits:
  • With cool, crisp, purified water from H20, it will be easy to drink the recommended 2 litres of water per day!
  • Unwanted chemicals and metals like chlorine, lead and aluminum sulphate, pesticides, herbicides, industrial pollutants and impure leakages into the system are removed from the water.
  • This will substantially reduce your risk of conditions and illnesses linked to dehydration and those chemicals.
  • It is about 20 times cheaper than buying bottled water. (It comes out at about 4c per litre if you purify your tap water.)
  • It is MUCH more environmentally friendly to purify tap water as you are using already established water systems, the municipality, and not adding tons of plastic bottles to our landfill waste sites.
  • This has got to be the best news you have heard this year!
  • Great health begins with purified water from H20! Taste the Difference!

H2O’s advice on the safety of tap water.

There have been several recent press releases that have pointed out cases of Typhoid in municipally treated water, mainly resulting from problems in the Delmas area. In the Western Cape there was a problem with the levels of aluminum sulphate. This does not mean that all municipal water in SA has bacteria or metals in it. In fact the only real problems tend to occur in the smaller outlying municipalities. It is irresponsible and not in the publics interest to try to create panic in order to capitalize on these isolated events as some water treatment companies are trying to do.

“Consumers have paid millions over the years towards establishing and maintaining water treatment infrastructures.” Says Tony Marchesini, MD of H2O International S.A.; “This scare has understandably led to many people buying bottled water in order to ensure the safety of their drinking water. What many do not realize is that there are far more cost effective systems and technologies available which are able to treat the water at point of use, ensuring a 100% confidence in its safety. It is therefore a waste of resources to buy bottled water and not to use the infrastructure that is in place. What a luxury to get water from a tap in your kitchen and bathroom!”

“H2O International S.A. salutes the municipalities for piping drinking water to our homes,” says Tony. Throughout the world individuals are taking it upon themselves to make sure the drinking water is of a consistent and acceptable quality. That is why they should use point of use water purifiers to polish the water one last time before it is consumed. Why are they doing this?

These purifiers remove chlorine and other chemicals present in S.A’s water supplies ensuring that the water is pure and tastes great. These chemicals are necessary in treating water, but research has shown that they have long-term negative effects on the body. “It is like buying bread,” say Tony, “When you buy bread in a supermarket, it is protected by a plastic bag. This plastic bag keeps the bread fresh on the shelf. It keeps the bread fresh all the way to your home, and then keeps it fresh in the bread bin. But when you want to eat the bread, you remove the plastic bag.” It is the same with water. The chlorine is the ‘plastic bag’ of water. At your home you can “remove the plastic bag” by using a simple, cost effective water purifier.

Safe drinking water is an absolute priority and you the consumer can ensure peace of mind through a point of use purifier while at the same time ensuring considerable savings. Just how cost effective is purified water? “We did some maths,” Says Tony, “A litre of bottled water in your main grocery stores costs about R4.00. To purify water at home costs about 4c a litre. That makes home purification 100 times cheaper than buying bottled water.”

There are four recognized technologies available on the market for the purification of drinking water. They are not suitable for all applications therefore when purchasing a water purifier it is very important to ensure that a reputable company who is able to provide you with sound advice on the best purifier for your needs is used. Water is an important structural component of skin cartilage, tissues and organs. For human beings, every part of the body is dependent on water. Our body comprises about 75% water: the brain has 85%, blood is 90%, muscles are 75%, kidney is 82% and bones are 22% water. The functions of our glands and organs will eventually deteriorate if they are not nourished with good, clean water.

The average adult loses about 2.5 litres water daily through perspiration, breathing and elimination. Symptoms of the body’s deterioration begins to appear when the body loses 5% of its total water volume. In a healthy adult, this is seen as fatigue and general discomfort, whereas for an infant, it can be dehydrating. In an elderly person, a 5% water loss causes the body chemistry to become abnormal, especially if the percentage of electrolytes is overbalanced with sodium. One can usually see symptoms of aging, such as wrinkles, lethargy and even disorientation. Continuous water loss over time will speed up aging as well as increase risks of diseases.

If your body is not sufficiently hydrated, the cells will draw water from your bloodstream, which will make your heart work harder. At the same time, the kidneys cannot purify blood effectively. When this happens, some of the kidney’s workload is passed on to the liver and other organs, which may cause them to be severely stressed. Additionally, you may develop a number of minor health conditions such as constipation, dry and itchy skin, acne, nosebleeds, urinary tract infection, coughs, sneezing, sinus pressure, and headaches.

So, how much water is enough for you? The minimum amount of water you need depends on your body weight. A more accurate calculation, is to drink an ounce of water for every two pounds of body weight.
