ABOUT US

Hi-Q opened in 1999 with only three Hi-Q stores in South Africa; today there are almost 180. From a franchising point of view, the growth of the Hi-Q network has been phenomenal.

When Hi-Q first opened for business, we decided to go about things a little differently. Because we work on their cars, our customers needed to truly trust us. It’s really the only way to success. Our quality service makes customers return again and again.

We fit only South Africa’s most trusted brands – quickly, affordably and safely. You see, at Hi-Q we never take our eyes off what’s important: your safety, and that of your passengers. The fact that our network consists of independently owned franchises, means that each Hi-Q store will go beyond the call of duty to ensure a customer’s satisfaction.

So when you’re looking for real value, fast fitment and expert service, there’s only one way to go: the Hi-Q way.

Wheel Alignment

Wheel alignment concerns the specifically calculated direction and angle of your wheels, relative to each other and the surface terrain, which determines the overall balance of your vehicle. Proper alignment affects the lifespan of your tyres, fuel consumption and the overall comfort and safety of your ride.

It is of vital importance to get your wheel alignment checked every 10 000 km or annually. You should also get it checked whenever new tyres are fitted. In the event that you travel regularly, over long distances and under tough road conditions, it is recommended that you check your alignment more frequently.

Wheel Balancing

Wheel balancing ensures that there is proper and even weight distribution of your tyres and wheels, and that it is consistent throughout. Correct balancing is vitally important to performance, safety and prolonging the overall lifespan of your vehicle. Get a Hi-Q professional to inspect the wheel and tyre balance of your car at least every 10 000km. Also, take the opportunity to ensure your tyres are evenly inflated every time you fill up your vehicle.

Exhausts

The car exhaust system is responsible for removing emissions, allowing the car to be safe for the driver and passengers as well as the environment. There are two other crucial functions the exhaust system serves. One is to lessen the loud explosive noises of combustion, the other is to ensure your car is running at optimum fuel efficiency.

The exhaust system is determined by different factors such as weather and driving conditions. It should undergo periodic inspection for corrosion and damage. It is recommended to replace it around every two to three years.

Shock Absorbers

Shock absorbers are instrumental to maintaining the integrity of your vehicle’s suspension. They are primarily designed to allow the tyres to conform to the contours of the road, dampening potential impact on roads and other terrain. Shocks provide your vehicle with stability and maneuverability, which determines a smooth, balanced ride. Shocks affect how well your car handles the road and braking. They play a vital role in providing safe, balanced reflexes and handling during emergencies.

It is strongly recommended to have your shocks checked by a Hi-Q professional at least once a year, or every 50 000km.

Batteries

A typical car battery is enclosed in plastic and contains lead plates submerged in reservoirs of water and sulphuric acid, which allows for electricity to be conducted. The battery is used to power your car’s engine. It serves as a power source, supplying energy to the rest of the car’s electrical functions, such as the starter, lighting, heating, electric windows and sound system, among others. A battery also functions to stabilise and regulate power output to your vehicle, so energy is not wasted or dispersed unevenly.

If adequately maintained, a battery should last approximately 2 to 5 years.

Brakes

Fully functional brakes are possibly the most essential component to ensuring your vehicle’s safety. When the driver pushes down on the brake pedal, the vehicle’s brake system uses hydraulics that apply force to each wheel through the use of pressurised fluid, in order to slow it down or bring it to a complete stop.

Be sure to get your brakes checked at regular intervals, typically every time you change or check your tyres.

Alloy Wheels

Alloy wheels differ from steel-plated wheels in that they are made from aluminium or magnesium. Alloy wheels are stronger, yet lighter, lowering the overall weight of the vehicle. They also conduct heat better, allowing for improved braking. One such benefit of using alloy wheels is that it reduces the unsprung weight of the vehicle, resulting in improved cornering and reducing overall fuel consumption. Additionally, alloy wheels are very aesthetically pleasing and will improve the overall look of your car! Clean your wheels frequently to maintain the appealing look. It is also important to periodically check your wheels for cracks, which can be repaired by a Hi-Q professional.

Towbars

The towbar is typically fitted to the rear of the vehicle, welded to its chassis. It is used for transporting or towing caravans, trailers and other vehicles. Although it is often overlooked, you should inspect the condition of your towbar periodically, especially if you frequently haul caravans, trailers or other heavy loads. As always, Hi-Q is your best bet for replacing or fitting towbars.
