ABOUT US

INDEPENDENT EDUCATION

One of Africa's leading independent girls' schools, The Wykeham Collegiate is situated in the suburb of Clarendon in Pietermaritzburg. The school aims to prepare girls for the challenges of the real world.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR EVERY GIRL

The girls at The Wykeham Collegiate are encouraged to believe in themselves and to value their own abilities. The broad, holistic curriculum provides opportunities for every girl to discover and develop her own talents.

CHRISTIAN ETHOS

The Wykeham Collegiate is a Christian school and there are three tenets to which the school subscribes: 'faith, hope and love'. It endorses the view expressed in 1 Corinthians 13:13 that 'the greatest of these is love'.

HISTORY

In 1878 Girls' Collegiate was founded in Pietermaritzburg as an 'Evangelical Protestant Day and Boarding School for Young Ladies" and in 1905 Wykeham School was established as an independent school for young women.

A decision to merge Girls' Collegiate and Wykeham School was made in 1988. The Wykeham Collegiate was officially opened in 1990 and quickly became recognised as one of the leading independent schools for girls in Africa.

With a focus was on academic studies, sport, music and drama, The Wykeham Collegiate continues to be at the cutting edge of educational initiative and the girls have achieved an impressive record in all these areas.
