ABOUT US

Knysna’s Wayside Inn has been a landmark in the center of this well-known holiday town since its humble beginnings in the early 1990’s. The development of Pledge Square was a major improvement for Knysna, and brought a vibey and lively atmosphere to this previously sleepy part of town. Now, a mere 20-something years later, Pledge Square is still known for its restaurants and pubs, with quaint shops open during the day.

The Wayside Inn’s central location is to this date a major attraction for those who wish to walk into town for a drink or bite to eat. The famous Knysna Waterfront, and nearby Thesen Island, with its ferry trips on the Knysna Lagoon, sailing charters for those more romantically inclined, and whale watching trips going through the famous Knysna Heads (in season: June to November mostly) are all within walking distance.

Attractions & Activities

The Knysna Wayside Inn is one of the most centrally located Knysna accommodation establishments, just a few meters away from shops and restaurants. It features elegantly decorated rooms and free off-street parking. It offers a complimentary buffet breakfast freshly prepared every morning.

All rooms at the Knysna Wayside Inn are stylishly decorated with colorful details. Each unit has a private bathroom with shower only and a TV with selected satellite channels. Most rooms offer views of the square with its quaint shops and restaurants Knysna has become known for. Some rooms have doors opening onto a French balcony. Our upstairs rooms have air-conditioning, while our ground floor rooms all have ceiling fans.

On our doorstep you will find Pledge Nature Reserve, a 10ha local nature reserve, with indigenous vegetation, quiet and serene dams and some wonderful trails including the one all the way to the top of the nature reserve, giving you an very rewarding view over the Knysna Wayside Inn, Knysna town, the Knysna Lagoon, the Heads and the Indian Ocean on the horizon. The guided Pledge Nature Reserve Full Moon Walks have become very popular so make sure you include a ‘full moon night’ stay with us! Entrance tickets can be bought from reception.

The Knysna Quays Waterfront, with its many shops, restaurants and different options for boat- and sailing trips on the Knysna Lagoon is a leisurely 15-minute walk. Knysna’s most famous landmark, the Knysna Heads are about 8 minute drive, with our Blue Flag status beaches at Brenton-on-Sea and Buffalo Bay are both less than 20 minutes from the Knysna Wayside Inn.

The Pezula Championship Golf Course as well as the Jack Nicklaus’ Signature Golf Course are both approximately 4 km away. Through our well established connections we are able to offer our guests discounted rates at those and other golf courses in the area.

Last but not least the greater Knysna offers some fantastic hikes and mountain biking trails in the Knysna Forest and the Garden Route National Park. So pack your hiking shoes, bring your mountain bike and come and have some outdoor fun with us here in Knysna!
