GENERAL INFORMATION

Who can enter?

This popular competition as part of the annual Pink Loerie Mardi Gras is open to all males between the ages of 18 to 40 years of age. We are looking for a gorgeous, sexy, irresistible and healthy looking male. The winner of Mr Gay Mardi Gras Southern Africa 2017 will have a guaranteed spot as one of the Mr Gay World Southern Africa 2017 finalists that will be held on Saturday 23 September 2017. The winner of this competition will represent South Africa at Mr Gay World 2018.

When do I have to be available?

You have to be available from 27 April – 1 May 2017 in Knysna and if you are the winner you have to be available from 17 September – 24 September 2017 for Mr Gay World Southern Africa that will be held in Pretoria.

Where and what time is the competition?

The competition will be held on Saturday 29 April 2017 at 10am and a rehearsal will take place on Friday 28 April 2017 in Knysna.

What will the competition consist of?

Interview;

Social Media Challenge;

Swimwear Challenge;

Street Parade Wear Challenge and

Formal Wear Challenge.

Are there any prizes?

There will be prizes and clothing from the official sponsors for 2017. Mr Gay Mardi Gras Southern Africa winners annually take home more than R20 000 in values in prizes.

Would I have any public appearances?

The winner will be in the official parade on Saturday 29 April 2017 together with the two runner ups. During the next year the winner might be needed for a few interviews and/or appearances promoting the Mr Gay Mardi Gras Southern Africa as well as Pink Loerie Mardi Gras & Arts Festival. You will be required to attend Pink Loerie 2018 to hand over the crown.

Each contestant will also be required to attend at least one of the Art Festival shows before the competition.

Proof of attendance at an Art Festival show will be tested during the interview.

Will any photographs be taken?

Yes! And the PINK LOERIE MARDI GRAS AND ARTS FESTIVAL SOUTHERN AFRICA FOUNDATION (NPC/NPO); WIGSTOCK FESTIVALS SOUTHERN AFRICA (PTY) LTD; BEAR COLONY FESTIVAL SOUTHERN AFRICA (PTY) LTD; PINK LOERIE TRAVEL (PTY) LTD; PINK LOERIE MAGAZINE (PTY) LTD; PINK LOERIE MARDI GRAS FESTIVALS SOUTHERN AFRICA CC and PINK LOERIE MARDI GRAS PAGEANTS (PTY) LTD t/a Mr Gay Mardi Gras Southern Africa 2017 and all affiliated sponsors, will have the right to use photographs at their own discretion in all mainstream media.

Who will the judges be?

They will be from all walks of life and from across SA – from gay media to activists.

What are the judges looking for?

A smart, educated and eloquent person who is confident to state his position, caring and friendly - open-minded to all people alike, aware of modern communication and able to use it in order to share and spread his message worldwide, visionary and dedicated to his responsibility towards the community they represents and lastly true and faithful to the community and Mr Gay Mardi Gras South Africa.

I usually come for their Friday nights bar parties and music events, it's really fun! I love playing pool with my boyfriend and his friends, the drinks are so nice there, they even do special cocktails if you ask! I love it here, such a great, chilled vibe. Come join in the fun!!!!!!!!!!

What a fantastic party! I don't go out often but when I do I will definitely come back here. The DJ played great music the whole night and the staff serving drinks were very friendly. I am very impressed with the service.
