If you are looking for a luxurious experience, surrounded by the peace and tranquillity of the African bush and far from the distractions of the modern world, where the only disturbance is the call of the magnificent fish eagle piercing the morning skies and the lazy flow of the river far below, then Huntshoek Game Lodge is the place for you.

Huntshoek Game Lodge is situated in South Africa's Eastern Cape, some 43 km east of the historic city of Grahamstown. This position makes it an easy drive from either Port Elizabeth or from East London for a few days' bush getaway from the city, a mini conference or an executive business meeting free of urban distractions.

The Eastern Cape is malaria-free, abounds with natural attractions and has the highest concentration of history and cultural interaction in South Africa. Huntshoek Game Lodge, being in the heart of Frontier Country, is perfectly situated to explore this rich historical and cultural heritage.

Feel yourself unwind as the bush surroundings melt away your stress; recharge your batteries while revelling in the abundance of gentle wildlife and the serenity of communing with nature.

Perched high on the banks of the Fish River our lodges Huntshoek and Huntsdrift offer a luxuriously relaxing getaway.

Huntshoek Lodge offers affordable accommodation which caters for all budgets and needs - from small intimate groups, mini conferences, team building weekends, couples or individuals...we welcome all!

Our thatched chalets are superbly comfortable with en-suite bathrooms and private decks.

Rooms are equipped with tea & coffee making facilities and hairdryers but there are no radios or televisions in order to keep your experience an authentic one!

Both lodges boast sparkling swimming pools, central lounge and dining areas, and decks overlooking rugged yet magnificent scenery.

Children over the age of 13 yrs are welcome.

Huntsdrift Lodge:

This intimate lodge is ideal for small groups. The open plan lounge, dining room, bar and kitchen area open out onto a central gathering point where guests can draw together around a crackling fire.

Huntsdrift offers:

  • Self catering accommodation
  • Minimum of 4 – maximum of 10 guests
  • On request: catering options for mini conferencing and business meetings.

Huntshoek Lodge:

This, our flagship luxury lodge, consists of 5 large chalets each with a private deck and magnificent view of the Fish River below. The chalets consist of double rooms with en-suite bathrooms and open air showers for the adventurous.

One of the chalets offers a self catering option for 4 singles sharing or 2 couples. It consists of 2 double rooms en-suite with open plan kitchen/lounge area and a private deck. This chalet can be made available separately from the lodge for overnight or weekend accommodation.

Huntshoek offers:

  • Minimum of 4 guests
  • Dinner, bed & breakfast
  • Light lunches on request

Activities at Huntshoek:

Huntshoek offers a quiet and peaceful getaway with no interferences from city life.

Bring your mountain bike or walking shoes and explore this very diverse and rugged countryside which is alive with warthog, buck, zebra and wildebeest to name a few. With an abundance of birdlife it is the avid birdwatcher's delight, so make sure you bring your bird guide and binoculars. Discover a surprise around every corner, from fragile flora to the slow moving tortoise; you will not be disappointed.

The river offers a great freshwater angling experience and a challenge to any addicted angler or newcomer. Please enquire upon booking as to how we can assist you in getting that ‘big one’!

At nightfall sit on the deck and gaze up at an unforgettable star studded sky or simply soak up the sounds of the bush and the beauty of a moonlit night while sipping one of our superb South African wines.

Activities near Huntshoek:

A 30 minute drive from Huntshoek, Grahamstown is a major centre of history and culture, boasting more than 70 declared National Heritage sites and host to the Annual Arts Festival.

Grahamstown is also home to Rhodes University, one of South Africa’s leading tertiary education institutions.

A little further towards the ocean lies the sleepy village of Bathurst. Enjoy a ‘cold one’ at the Pig 'n Whistle, the oldest licenced pub in South Africa, or visit the big pineapple – the largest of its kind and learn more about the pineapple industry this area is so well known for.

Enjoy a relaxing day of sun and sea at one of the unspoilt beaches of Port Alfred or play a round of golf at the renowned Royal Alfred Golf Club.
