ABOUT US

Sustainability

John Dory's is committed to sustainable business practice through our Eco Voyage sustainability programme. In collaboration with Spur Corporation we are making a concerted effort to ensure our Environmental Sustainability Policy is a living reality in our restaurants.

We are focussing on the triple bottom line - 'People, Planet and Profit' as the central message of our policy, with specific attention to Energy Reduction and Saving. With the help and guidance from the Spur Corp. Eco Team, we also participate in Water Conservation, Waste Reduction and Community Projects. Our restaurants are measured on activities through our Green Operational Reports, which provide the Eco Team with data and feedback that supports further research and development in technologies to help reduce our environmental impact.

Our partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF) South African Sustainable Seafood Initiative (SASSI) is central to our commitment to managing our precious ocean resources. Through this collaboration, we have already taken major steps towards reviving the state of our fish stocks through support for sustainable fishing practices.

We look forward to welcoming you aboard our Eco Voyage, as we work towards a sustainable future, today.

FRANCHISE

The Brand:

The legend of the first John Dorys emanates from the coastal waters of Durban in 1996, currently we boast 56 restaurants nationally.

JD’s specialises in seafood; sushi & grills. We are all about fun, great taste and excellent value for the whole family.

John Dory's takes pride in its relationship with The Southern African Sustainable Seafood Initiative (SASSI), realising how vital responsible - fishing practices are to our depleted ocean resources. We also pride ourselves on our uncompromising and absolute transparency and honesty.

Concept:

We offer quality seafood, grills and sushi at highly competitive prices; a family-friendly environment; world-class training and great opportunities for growth.

We are also committed to delivering sustainable fish from SASSI’s approved Green and Orange list, and undertake to purchase products from reputable suppliers—all of which are able to trace the product back to its source and we therefore have certain “licensed” products that have to be bought by our franchisees. This can only be achieved through centralised buying and our highly experienced procurement team who scrutinises all relevant documentation before listing the various seafood products at the respective distribution points.

Our Customers

The prospective John Dory’s customer is essentially young at heart and is between 25—49 years of age, to whom leisure time is very important. This individual knows how to enjoy him/herself and enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Support:

Training would take place at one of our training restaurants throughout the country where the franchisee, along with their management and staff, will undergo an extensive programme that will equip them with the tools that they need to run a successful restaurant in our group. We also have a very successful training department that host a broad curriculum of courses at our Regional training facilities. Operational Support will be offered by our hands on Operations team who will conduct activities monthly that ensure that standards are upheld and monitor service levels.

Are you our next franchisee:

Previous experience in the Hospitality Industry is advantageous but not a must. Franchisees must be enthusiastic, hands on and motivated. They should also be passionate about food and customer service as this will set them in good stead to be successful. They must be prepared to work long hours and be extremely driven and energetic.

John Dory's takes pride in its relationship with The Southern African Sustainable Seafood Initiative (SASSI), realising how vital responsible - fishing practices are to our depleted ocean resources. We also pride ourselves on our uncompromising and absolute transparency and honesty.
