ABOUT US

Splashy Fen is South Africa’s longest running and oldest music festival. It is so much more than just a music festival, it is a festival that celebrates life, art, music, people, love laughter, fun and enjoyment, all within a world heritage site (The Drakensberg).

The festival started in 1990 after a night of red wine around a fire when Peter Ferraz and Bart Fokkens decided that the farm Splashy Fen was a perfect location for a music gathering. Expecting only a hundred or so fans, the inaugural festival attracted some 400 musicians and festival goers, and by 1995, had become the biggest music festival in the country.

Over the years, Splashy has welcomed in excess of 150 000 people through its gates and provided a platform which has seen music careers blossom across our promised land. It is so much more than a festival…..and is rightly dubbed “SA’s Friendliest Music Festival”.

In recent years, the festival has experienced a significant revival and is now attracting fans from across the continent and globally to a festival site that is largely considered the most beautiful in South Africa.

INFORMATION

GENERAL CAMPING

General camping is included in your Splashy fen festival ticket. Large open farmland fields with cut grasslands provide perfect and comfortable options for attendees to pitch their tents and campsites. At Splashy we allow you to park your car next to your campsite, as well as make your own fires. PLEASE BE VIGILANT OF THE RISK OF FIRES. If the wind picks up, please put fires out and do not create bon fires as these can easily set tents and vehicles alight. Please act responsibility in this regard.

Included in your general camping is access to our FREE public showers, which are open between 07h00 – 17h00. Heavy traffic periods for the showers are in the mornings before 09h00 and in the evenings after 15h00.

Ablutions are provided throughout the site and are serviced regularly by our cleaning teams. When the site is wet and raining, servicing becomes harder due to the mud, we appreciate your understanding and please know that our cleaning teams work around the clock to maintain good, clean ablutions for everyone.

Please note that no reserving of campsites prior to the festival gates opening will be allowed. Splashy operates on a first come first serve process with regards to general camping and available areas.

GLAMPING

Our Harambee tented camp has become hugely popular and offers attendees an opportunity to upgrade their camping experience. The glamping village offers a pre-pitched A-Frame canvas tent with 2 beds (your choice of a double or 2 single beds), linen and bedding, in a fenced off area with your own hot showers and serviced trailer toilets. The glamping package is priced per tent (so is for 2 people) and includes breakfast daily. You can book 2, 3 or 4 night packages. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE GLAMPING PRICES EXCLUDE YOUR FESTIVAL TICKET. These still need to be purchased through our ticket link on our website.

To book your glamping packages or for any glamping queries, please email Susan at bookings@harambeehotel.com.

FAMILY CAMPING

Our family camping area has been hugely popular over the past few years and continues to sell out each year. The area is a fenced off section at the top of our festival site that allows families to congregate in an area of common ground. Added security at the gates and dedicated trailer unit toilets are located within the Family Camping area. The area is based on a first come first serve bases, and costs R300 per vehicle at the entrance, trailers and caravans are charged an extra R150 each. The family camping area is kindly controlled by St Patricks School in Kokstad as a fund raiser.

POWERED CAMPSITES

A brand new campsite has been introduced in 2019 which will offer 40 powered sites setup in a newly fenced off area on a brand new stretch of river that hasn’t before been open for campers. The area is located at the bottom of the general campsite, on the right as you come over the concrete bridge onto Splashy Fen. These sites will have a basic power facility to each site, and will allow a maximum of 4 people per site. The sites are 10m x 6m in size and cost R1500 for the duration of the festival. This price does not include your festival ticket which needs ort be purchased separately. Your powered campsite pass can be purchased when you purchase your festival ticket.

TICKETS

All attendees need to purchase a Festival Pass if they are staying more than one night. Festival Pass prices are listed below. Otter Club tickets are available to all those who bought tickets direct from our website for the 2018 festival. Attendees will be sent a secret link on 18th Sept to redeem this pricing offer. All the tickets below provide the same access to the same facilities and stages at Splashy Fen.

DAY TICKETS

Day visitors are welcome at Splashy Fen. Your day pass includes an overnight pass to the festival and allows you to setup camp for one night. You will be required to pay the full price of R900 for a gate festival pass on arrival. You will be issued with a receipt and be required to leave the site by 10h00 the next morning. On departure, present your receipt to the gate control team and you will receive a refund based on the pricing for the day that you attended. Day visitors not intending to stay the night will be provided with secure day visitor’s parking space.

EARLY CAMPING

In recent years, we have allowed early camping to take place at Splashy Fen in an attempt to cater for those travelling from afar, however this has developed into quite a gathering of Splashy Fenners. While we love the enthusiasm, we do need to ensure that we control the early camping numbers in order to allow our staff, service providers and vendors to setup for the official opening of the festival. In order to manage that, we have had to limit the number of early camping tickets available. In 2019, these will be limited to 600 people only, and you will need to purchase your early camping pass online with your festival ticket as an extra add on purchase.

Please note that once these 600 passes are sold, no more will be made available, and no attendees will be allowed onto the site on Wednesday without one of these passes.
